Yes it IS possible to send a text message to a landline for certain cell phone customers.
Again this will depend on the type of service you have, as well as your service provider.

When sent to a landline the SMS is converted to a voice message through "text to voice" technology. The caller will complete a text message as usual, and then dial the receiver's landline phone number (including area code). Generally the cell phone provider will make three attempts to deliver the message. If the landline is answered, the receiver will hear a voice message, if not the message will go to the answering service or machine if this is set up. The sender of the text message usually gets notification that the message has been delivered.
